We live in the fast paced world where technology is always evolving. In some cases, hardware and software gets replaced and upgraded almost annually.  Every business model has its own separate needs for technology, and the best approach is to have a plan in advance with a budget and strategy. Remember, the performance and production of your employees may highly depend on their technology performance. As an example, once a system reaches 3 years of age, if any repair would cost more than $100, replacing the system should strongly be considered. To minimize the downtime for users and “run-away” repair costs it is best to have a plan with your current IT service provider on how to face on the challenge due to a system failure or better yet what should be done to avoid it.

We recommend that the system should be replaced if:

• A system should be replaced if a business needs to run new software that is not being supported by the current system and the upgrade cost would be more significant than purchasing a new system. As an example: Do not spend $300 to upgrade a 5 year old computer, instead consider spending $600 on a new system which would include a new warranty.

We recommend that the system should be repaired if:

• The repairs can be done quickly and efficiently, without rebuilding the system and/or reinstalling the Operating System, which could take more than 3 hours of labor in cases where everything needs to be manually reinstalled.
• An image backup can be used to “roll back” to an earlier state (prior to a virus infection or other problem) without needing to invest in labor to reinstall software and reconfigure settings.

In all of these cases we strongly recommend a consultation with an experienced IT service provider, so the decision is determined based on the full evaluation of your technology situation and the business needs.
